Launder's Furniture Store
Thomas managed a highly successful furniture store in Footscray that has since been replace with a supermarket.  In 1955, the store was burnt out, but was soon restored to full operation.

Thomas and his wife, Daisy, lived for a long time in Ballarat Road, opposite Footscray Park.  His son, Jack, ran a branch of the furniture store in Ivanhoe.

The family owned a seaside week-end house at Mentone.

1919 - The Right Spirit - Mr. T.H. Launder's Gratitude

Mr. Thomas H. Howard, one of Footscray's leading business men, has on numerous occasions given convincing proof of his regard for and gratitude towards returned sailors and soldiers.  On every occasion since the troopships began to bring men back from the war zones he has been on the pier with his car to take the boys to their homes.  In dozens of other ways he has helped Australia's fighting men and their families.

At the general meeting of the RSSAILA held on
Wednesday last, the secretary announced that Mr. Launder had offered a piece of land between the Federal Hall and Hooper's workrooms in Nicholson Street as a site for the Memorial Hall for the sum of 1,000 pounds.  The piece of land is worth considerably more than this, and in letting it go at the figure mentioned Mr. Launder is making a considerable concession.

Further than this, he has promised 500 pounds towards the building fund.  There are many men in the district who can afford to give quite as generously as Mr. Launder, and if they were possessed of his appreciative spirit, the boys would soon have their hall.
