1933 - Theft
Life must have been tough in the Warren household at this time. For, Albert, in endeavouring to lessen the burden on his parents, stole motor bikes whilst they were parked in Melbourne with a view to selling them for the money which he intended to give to his mother. Burdett, his mother, pleaded with the court for leniency for her youngest son and was stricken when the judge sentenced the young 19 year old lad to 12 months imprisonment. Thanks to Burdett's pleas, the sentence was suspended in lieu of a bond of £20 on condition that Albert be on good behaviour for the next three years.

However, upon hearing the amount of the bail set for his son, Leonard Leslie entered the witness box and addressing the Magistrate, expressed his opinion that the amount was too high. The Magistrate was possibly taken aback at this insolence in his court, said to Leonard Leslie - 'If you are going to criticise the Court, you will find yourself there, indicating there dock'
Assuring all present that the bail was in line with the charge, he said he could not let his sympathy run away with his duty - and the bail was unchanged.
