Henry and his wife, Laura, were first cousins as Henry’s father, John Collings and Laura’s mother, Mary Jull Collings, were brother and sister.
Electoral records of 1903 through to 1937 show their address as 17 Denmark Hill Road, Auburn, during which time Henry worked as a rate collector, although, in 1922 and 1923, he was listed as the Receiver and Paymaster for the City of Hawthorn.
In the book, “History of Hawthorn”, published in 1910, Henry is referred to as “well known to all Hawthorn residents as the genial assessor and collector of municipal rates.“
1940 – Death of Henry John Collings
He died in 1940 at the age of 81 years and his wife Laura survived him by another 19 years to die aged 94.
