1912 - Inquest re Death of Walter Herbert McNay
Inquest Document re Walter Herbert McNayTranscription -Sir,I have the honour to report that Dr. ..... of Adelaide Lunatic Asylum informed our station by letter which is attached that a patient named Walter McNay, aged 28 years died at 5.10 pm on 30.8.12 from natural causes namely phthisis# and epileptic exhaustion. This patient was admitted March 5,1889. He has never been robust and was much stunted in physical development. He was quite an idiot and could give no information about himself. A few days ago he was found to be suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis and was duly reported to the Health Authorities. He was confined to bed two days in the hospital ward before he died. He was in a state of acute epilepsy at the end.# Phthisis is defined as a progressively wasting or consumptive condition, particularly associated with pulmonary tuberculosis. It refers to a wasting disease characterised by the atrophy of the body or a part of the body. Historically, phthisis was commonly used to describe a decline in health due to tuberculosis.2.
