1944 – Obituary for Harry Skene
OBITUARY – MR. H. SKENEThe remains of the late Mr. Henry Skene, of Northumberland Road, were interred at Boroondara Cemetery, Kew on Thursday last. The deceased gentleman, who was 70 years of age, had lived in this district for about 20 years. Unknown, perhaps, as widely as his kindly, cheerful disposition seemed to deserve, Mr. Skene had many friends here, and none of these could well be surprised at seeing so large a concourse at the funeral. He came of a Scottish ancestry distinguished by achievements of honour and talent. In earlier years, Mr. and Mrs. Skene were bereft of three sons. The only one surviving, Noel, is well known, and cordially esteemed among us. To him, and to his widowed mother, we offer our sympathy. The mortuary arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Walter A. Warne, and at the chapel and graveside, services were conducted by the Rev. W. Evans, minister of the Sunshine Presbyterian Church.Sunshine Advocate (Vic. : 1924 - 1954), Friday 4 August 1944

In the first case, in which Vernon McDonald sought to have Noel Skene ejected from a house in Northumberland Rd., Sunshine, allegations were made that the tenant had abused the property. Grounds for ejectment were that the house was in a filthy condition, there were considerable arrears of rent and the owner was suffering hardship through having to live at Camp Pell.
The respondent was unable to appear in Court, as his motor truck had broken down at Ararat, but his wife appeared on his behalf. An order for ejectment was made with a stay of four weeks.Sunshine Advocate (Vic. : 1924 - 1954), Friday 28 November 1947
