Ellen Mary Collings remained unmarried and lived in Hawthorn with her parents until her father’s death when she occupied the house that her father had bequeathed to her. She was one of the two trustees her father nominated to administer his estate, so he must have regarded as competent. He also requested that she and her brother continue to run his grocery business in Hawthorn after his death. Her father bequeathed to her his piano, so presumably she had some musical talent.
