1907 - In Memorium
CAMM.— In sad and loving memory of my darling wife and our dear mother, Amy Beatrice (Bertie) Camm. who died 21st December, 1906.
Death may hide, but it cannot divide.Thou art only on Christ's other side:Thou are with Christ and Christ is with me;And united still in Christ are we.Worthy of lasting love was she,From those she left behind:More loving mother there could not be,Nor wife more true and kind.In dreams I see my wife's sweet face. And kiss her dear smooth brow; And whisper as I loved you then,I love your memory now.

Ethel Camm moved with her father, a station master, to Heyfield and then to Dookie where she met and married George Gardner who was a farmer. Unfortunately, on July 6, 1916, her husband choked to death in her presence, possibly as a result of pleurisy. Ethel was pregnant at the time, but lost the baby soon after.Ethel then became useful to her sister-in-law, George's brother's wife, whenever she had one of her many children. It was there that Ethel met William James McCarron and they married on his birthday, February 14, 1922. At the time, the McCarron's were farming at Mungery, near Peak Hill in NSW. They owned a threshing machine and had a shearing team and travelled to other properties doing contract work and it was at Ethel's brother-in-law's farm that she met William James McCarron.

Those conditions prevailed over eastern Victoria. There were thunderstorms and hailstorms at 9 a.m. in Victoria. In reply to a question, Mr. Camm said "It is well to recognise that in Australia we control the largest meteorological area in the world and to main the service to any detail would be a matter of considerable expense, more, I believe that the Australian public would afford."Daily Examiner (Grafton, NSW) newspaper, April 13, 1931

1939 - Weather Warnings re Bushfires
District Committees WantedThe president of the Hardwood Millers’ Association and owner of two mills in Erica district, said he had provided large dug-outs, tunnelled deep into the earth, at his mills. It was not obligatory upon millers to provide dug-outs, he added. The Forest Commission requested that dugouts should be established, but it 'was not made a condition of a miller's lease that he carried out the request.Mr. Ezard and other millers said that the chief cause of bush fires was careless burning off by settlers. They advocated that Forest Commission officers and millers should form committees in every centre to insist that burning off was carried out at the proper time. The supervising meteorologist at the Weather Bureau (Mr. Foley) said that forecasting dangerous fire conditions was difficult, but a system had been in operation in Victoria for several years and had proved highly accurate.
Bush Are warnings issued by the bureau were supplied to the' Forest Commission, bush Are brigades and newspapers and were broadcast.
The chief forecast officer at the bureau (Mr. Harold Eustace Camm) said that the first bush fire warning previous to recent serious outbreaks had been sent to the Forest Commission on December 3 and confirmed the following day.Sun News-Pictorial (Melbourne, Vic. : 1922 - 1954; 1956), Friday 3 February 1939, page 22

Schreck, of North Melbourne,, was informed of the sudden death of Leslie Herbert Camm. a child, 5 years of age.Tho constable went to the home of tho child's father, Mr Harold Camm, at Errol street, and was told that deceased had been complaining of a cold since Friday last. Yesterday he remained in bed till midday, and then got up for dinner. Deceased returned to bed at 5 or 6 p.m., and at 10.30 p.m. had some hot lemon water and sugar. At 11.40 pm. he was found dead in bed. Dr. J. K. Troup was called In, but he could not give a certificate under the circumstances. The body has been removed to the Morgue, and an Inquest will be held at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning.Herald (Melbourne, Vic. : 1861 - 1954), Monday 15 July 1907, page 2BOY'S DEATH.The death of Leslie Herbert Camm, aged five years, has been reported to the coroner by the North Melbourne police, and an inquest will be held at the Morgue at 10 o'clock this morning.Constable Shreck went to the house of Mr Harold Camm, Errol street, North Melbourne, and there found that the child, after suffering from a cold since Friday, had died in his sleep on Sunday.Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957), Tuesday 16 July 1907, page 7LITTLE BOY'S SUDDEN DEATH.At the Morgue on 16th July, Mr Candler the City Coroner, held an inquiry regarding the death of Leslie Herbert Camm, aged five years, which occurred suddenly at his father's residence.Harold Camm, assistant station master at South Yarra, stated that the deceased was his son. He complained of having a slight cold, and on the following day said that his throat, was sore, but he had no difficulty in swallowing his food.On 14th July deceased stayed in bed until midday, having taken some toast for his breakfast..He came down stairs at 1 p.m., and was playing with the other children until evening. He then ate a good tea and went to bed again. At 10.30 witness's daughter took the child a drink of lemon water and sugar. Witness went upstairs' to see the little boy at midnight, and found him dead. Witness was living with his brother-in-law, whose child was also ill. Witness did not call in a doctor to see his child as the symptoms were only those of a slight cold. Witness never for one moment suspected that his child was afflicted with diphtheria.Dr. George Campbell Rennie, of North Melbourne, stated that he had made an autopsy of the remains. The cause of death was diphtheria. To the Coroner: The immediate cause of death was the obstruction of the air passages associated with the heart being weakened by diphtheria. The child had evidently died rapidly. The larynx had been gathering for some four or five days before death, and I think there would have been very suggestive symptoms apparent a medical man if he had been called in on 12th July to see the child. The early stages of diphtheria are very likely to be mistaken for a common cold or influenza. This could be described as a case of unsuspected diphtheria.Weekly Times (Melbourne, Vic. : 1869 - 1954), Saturday 20 July 1907, page 31FUNERAL NOTICESCAMM.— THie Friends of Mr. HAROLD CAMM (Victorian Railways) are respectfully invited to follow the remains of his beloved third eldest son, Leslie Herbert, to the place of interment, the Boroondara Cemetery, Kew.The funeral will leave Errol-street, North Melbourne, TO-MORROW (Wednesday), 17th inst.. at 11 o'clock.JOSEPH ALLISON.
