Thorp. The death took place at the Spencer Hospital, Wynyard on Sunday afternoon last of Rosetta Thorp, wife of Mr. F. H. Thorp, and mother of Master George Thorp, of "Hillside" Forest. The circumstances attending her demise are very sad. She had been in apparently perfect health, but took suddenly ill about a fortnight ago. She was removed to the Spencer Hospital to undergo an operation, for an internal complaint. After the operation her case was found to be hopeless and she gradually sank despite every medical attention.Mrs. Thorp, who was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G Smith, was born on the Western Plains, Stanley, and was in her 51st year. She was of a cheerful disposition and a great favorite with everyone. During her husband's recent illness, she was untiring in her attention to him. A faithful wife and loving mother has gone to her rest. Sympathy is expressed on all sides for the bereaved husband and only child. The surviving relatives are—Mrs. S. Smith stepmother; Mrs. M. Summers (Zeehan), Mrs. H. Emmett and Mrs. E. J. Burley (Stanley), Mrs. R. Logan (Forth), sisters. Messrs. Joseph and John Smith (Wiltshire) and George and William (Forest) are brothers. The funeral took place at Stanley yesterday after the arrival of the train from Wynyard. The cortege formed at the station gates and proceeded to St. Paul's church, where service was conducted by the Rector, the Rev. T. A. Moore-Campbell. The hymns sung were "On the Resurrection Morn" and "Nearer my God to Thee." The organist played the Dead March. The procession then marched to the cemetery where the last sad rites were performed. There was a large number of floral tributes. The pall-bearers were Messrs. A. Smith, K C. Laughton, J. R. Horne and P. C. Coombe. Carriers: Messrs. James, Merv, William, and Dennis Smith.Source : Circular Head Chronicle (Stanley, Tas. : 1906 - 1954), Wed 19 Aug 1925.
