According to the 1921 Census which Alfred completed, he was the head of the household, aged 38 years, married, born in Clifton, Bedfordshire, of British nationality. He was employed by the General Post Office as a G.P.O. Linesman, stationed at Henlow. His wife, listed as Mary Gertrude West, was 44 years and 7 months old, born at Harrogate in Yorkshire, also of British nationality and worked at home. Their only child was Alice Margaret West, aged 6 years and 9 months, born at Henlow in Bedfordshire, and was a full-time scholar.
The census doesn't give their residential address, only that the census was taken in Biggleswade in Bedfordshire.
