KAROONDA. October 20.

The sixth annual show was held to-day, when there was a record attendance, and ideal weather. Entries were large and the President is Mr. Herbert Sanders. And Secretaries Messes. Albert Walker and J. V. Atkins. The draught stock were exceptionally good.

This was the comment of the Judge who judged the sheep.- and remarked that they were of fine quality, especially the champion won by Mr. H. Sanders's ewe.

KAROONDA.

The sixth annual show at Karoonda was held on Wednesday in ideal weather. The entries were a record for the society. The opening ceremony was performed by Messrs. F. M. McMillan, M.P., and W. L. Parsons, M.H-R. The attendance was larger than at any previous show. The president of the society is Mr. Herbert Sanders, one of the most successful wheat growers on the local Government experiment plots, who has won prizes with his grain at the Adelaide Show.

He was a market gardener for Sturt and Marion, and later took up land at Jabuk, 11 miles from Karoonda. The Paringa railway had not been built at the time, and for many years he had to do all his carting to and from Pinnaroo. a distance of 60 miles over bad roads.  He is chairman of the local branch of the Agricultural Bureau, and secretary of the Nunkori arid Yurgo Progress Association.

Mr. Herbert Sanders was working among horses on his farm, when one of the animals crushed him against a fence, severely injuring his ribs. The sufferer was brought to the Yorketown Hospital for treatment. He was afterwards allowed to go home.

TRAM AND LORRY COLLIDE

Claims for Damages Before Mr. S. D. Ronald, S.M., in the Adelaide Local Court today, the Municipal Tramways Trust claimed £20/12/7 damages from Herbert Sanders, farmer, of Karoonda, alleging that his negligent driving of a motor lorry in Brown street, City, on September 20, 1935, had forced the vehicle against a tramcar, which was damaged.

Sanders denied negligence and alleged that the motorman of the tram had failed to keep a proper lookout, driven at excessive speed, and failed to have the tram fitted with proper and sufficient brakes, or failed to apply them to avoid the collision.

He counter-claimed £4/5/ damages to his lorry. The case is not completed.

1936 - "News (Adelaide, SA)", June 10, 1936

ACTION BY TRAMWAYS TRUST

Mr. S. D. Ronald. S.M., continued the hearing in the Adelaide Local Court yesterday of the action by the Municipal Tramways Trust against Herbert Sanders, of Karoonda.  Mr. D. B. Ross appeared for the Trust, and Mr. J. R. Kearnan for Sanders.

The Trust claimed £20/11/7 damages, as a result of a collision between a tram and Sanders's motor lorry in Brown street, city, on September 20.  The Trust alleged that Sanders had been negligent.   Sanders denied liability, alleging that the Trust had been guilty of negligence causing or contributing to the accident. He counterclaimed £4/5/- damages.

Mr. Ronald gave judgment for the Trust for the amount of its claim, and upon the counter-claim.

Raymond Samuel Sanders, of Pirie, pleaded guilty by letter to a similar charge (of having an excessively noisy motor-bike). He was fined £2/10/, with 10/ costs, in default seven days' imprisonment. A fortnight was allowed for payment.

Defendant said in his letter that his machine was 17 years old. He promised to make every effort to adjust it.

The offence was committed in Alexander Street on June 17.

The case was heard ex parte. Constable J. A. Glass said in evidence that defendant told him he did not know the cause of the noise. He had intended to have the machine fixed up at the week-end.

His Honour said he trusted that notice would be taken of the fines imposed that day. Noisy motor cycles were a source of great annoyance, and he commended the police on having taken action.
